My Trick for Overcoming Procrastination

Stop Procrastinating

pro·cras·ti·nate

prəˈkrastəˌnāt
verb
: delay or postpone action; put off doing something.

If you're anything like me, sometimes your plate is just a little too full and those pesky, seemingly "less important" tasks get ignored until they pile up and eventually bring about the kind of anxiety that makes you feel overwhelmed, thus causing procrastination. That's when I have a list of things to do (around the house, for example) that get put on the back burner, and instead of tackling them I shut down and lay on my couch all weekend or think of anything else I can possibly do to avoid them. In fact, if you ever see me reposting like a million tweets in a day, it's because I'm using Twitter as an escape and excuse to not do what I really should do (and please, call me out on it, seriously).
While your list may differ from mine, I'm sure we've all been in the position where we end up dreading whatever it is we have to do, and we inadvertently make life all the more difficult. In my experience, this is one of the hardest stages to get myself out of (clearly it's deeply embedded), so I've learned a trick to reprogram my mind, rid myself of that anxiety and move forward: hypnosis (or, for those less comfortable with that depth of your subconscious, meditation).
I take 25 minutes out of my day whenever I feel my procrastinating habits coming on and listen to one of the two videos I've placed below. For some of us, we may have to spend multiple days focusing on overcoming procrastination, but I've found it to be well worth it.

While I understand it may not seem logical to take more time away from your tasks when you're already behind, I think we must recognize the power in reprogramming our mind for success. Spending 10+ minutes daily dedicating ourselves to scientifically proven, beneficial hypnotic and meditative exercises can undoubtedly change the framework of both our brains and our belief systems. Only then are we able to make longstanding changes that transform and propel us into another level of productivity.
